A Study of Subtitle Translation Strategies Used to Translate the Offensive Language in Billions

This study examines the expressions considered as offensive language produced by all characters in their workplaces Billions and subtitle translation strategies used to translate them. The writer applied two theories: Battistella’s (2005) theory of Pedersen’s (2011) strategy. was done using a qualitative approach. fall into four categories: Vulgarity, Epithets, Profanity, Obscenity. In addition, out six are language: Substitution, Omission, Generalization, Direct Translation. Both Retention Specification not used. Some that linguistically may carry offense when certain context conversation. Substituting with another local expression ensures message is delivered maintains unpleasant impression whereas euphemizing or eliminating it significantly alter original nuance.
